Switching Power Supplies
Many of today’s electronic devices use switching power supplies.
A switching power supply is more efficient in many ways.
Some switching power supply can work within a wide range of AC voltages without affecting the devices or equipment connected.
Unlike the older heavy transformer power supply that is normally bigger in size and can only work within the listed voltage range.
Your switching power supply may encounter problems after time, read more..
Laptop power supplies don’t have fans to cools things down and because of the internal high frequency and power drain there are some heat and capacitors can fail over time.
If your Laptops power supply power supply was affected by an overloaded voltage then you should get a replacement, it is not worth trying to fix.
For Technicians Only:
1. Many power supplies start up circuit carry a high value resistor that goes up in value preventing the power supply from turning on, also the switching IC B+ has a capacitor that normally fail or change value.
2. Capacitors leak and some may even explode changing their value and must be replaced.
3. Start up voltage pulse generator IC or start up voltage normally 5volts or 3volts missing voltage or IC burnt out.
4. Check all fans, if defective then replace with the correct fan and voltage.
DVR Power supply can fail just like the Laptop power supplies power supply listed above.
Some DVR power supply that power the cameras can also fail and the camera or cameras will stop working.
You can get a DC voltage tester and check the output voltage listed on the power supply individually which is normally 12volts DC, 24volts and sometimes 5volts.

Industrial type switching Power supply
Desktop and DVR power supply:
If your desktop computer starts and stops or doesn’t power on at all contact a computer technician, he or she may  connect another power supply to test the computer, check if the power plug is properly connected or plug it into another device to see if the plug and outlet are working.
Check if the fan spin and stop when you plug the power plug into the power outlet also check if the power supply switch is turned on as some power supply has a switch to the back of the power supply.
Industrial switching Power supply can be found in more advanced equipment such as Video gaming machines, Video camera systems, Industrial computer equipment and many areas where needed.
As you can see these power supply carry a fan as they sometimes stay on for longer time and some don’t turn off until they stop working.
Others are turned off to carrying out maintenance such as blowing out dust and cleaning fans.
